Year End 1999

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Water Resources, requires that we obtain an "Operating Permit" for our dam.  To comply with their requirements, we had to build an energy dissipator at the base of the spillway.  At our AGM in July 1999, it was agreed that we should proceed with this project, and obtain a loan for financing.

First we had to get IDOT to agree to some minor design changes.

  1. We had several meetings with Jim Gastel of Gastel and Associates, our consulting engineer.
  2. Gastel & Associates completed a full survey of the dam and adjacent lot lines.
  3. Structural drawings were prepared to incorporate the changes from the original design.
  4. The necessary forms were prepared for the permit application and submitted to IDOT on September 24th 1999.
  5. On November 4th we were told by IDOT that:
  6. A "Request to BID" package was prepared and sent to six local contractors capable of performing the work.  The Board of Directors met in February to review the bids, and selected Civil Constructors bid of $51,298.
  7. Subject to weather, the work is scheduled to start mid-summer (August).  We will agree on a date two weeks in advance.  The lake level will be lowered 1 - 2 ft.
  8. A work party will be required to remove weeds and several small trees before work begins.
